Online Forex Trading Quotes – How to Read and Understand Quotes
When you trade in online Forex, you need to read the Forex quotes, which are how the currencies are written. In every Forex transaction the trader, two currencies are simultaneously bought and sold. These two currencies are called the currency pair. There is no option to make forex order without knowing how to read the Forex quotes. This is what we'll try to explain to you in this page.
Forex currencies appear in Forex quotes, in a similar way as this example: Euro and US Dollar quote: EUR/USD – 1.2566 / 69
Base Currency
This is the currency that appears to the left of the slash. In this example this is the EUR.
Quote Currency
This is the currency to the right, the USD in the example. The online Forex quote contains two numbers. The first, the one to the left of the slash (1.2566 in the example), is the bid price, this is the trader's selling price.
The second number, contains only the last two digits to symbolize the entire ask price, the price that the trader buys the Forex currency in. In the example, this price is 1.2569.
Forex quotes are easily understood. Understanding how to read them is perhaps the most basic of online forex trading. Each second the value of the Forex quotes is changed, according to the exchange rates so it is important to stay updated with the latest online Forex news.
The majority of beginning Forex traders think that reading a Forex quote is the same as reading a regular. In some ways it is, but there is more involved in a Forex quote itself. Also, it is laid out differently. A Forex quote gives you a large amount of information in a compact little format, and you have to be careful that you are reading it correctly to make a successful trade. Here is a sample of what a Forex quote can look like:

Another commonly confused term in the world of Forex stock quotes is called a “pip”. A pip is simply .01 difference between two sample quotes. So, if you had one sample at 1.53 and another that was at 1.55, then you would have two pips difference. Pips are simply units within the Forex market.
Many of the online resources that provide Forex quotes will instead have a chart or constantly updating graph with all of your Forex quotes. In these situations, they will appear much like a regular stock chart, but with the various other currencies running along the top as columns. The numbers will then show up and down how each currency compares to others. Some will simply post the hottest ones in a regular graph format. Whatever the case, you need only look for the bid price, and the asking price of one Forex currency to another.
As you can see, reading Forex quotes are rather easy if you pay attention. This does not mean that you should run right out and start slinging around currency trades. your Forex portfolio is much more involved than that. It will simply give you a baseline from which to start in the world of Forex quotes and trading.
